Recon Chipotle Sloppy Joe

Ingredients:

2 brioche buns

1 lbs ground turkey

1 lbs ground chicken

1 onion, med dice

1 can tomato sauce

1 can chipotle in adobo sauce, small dice

2 tsp Chipotle powder

2 tsp Ancho & Guajillo powder

2 tsp Bragg 24 Herbs and Spices

Salt & pepper

Directions:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat with all of the seasonings and 1 tablespoon of the chipotle in adobo sauce. Mix everything together with your hands until the seasonings are evenly distributed, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Heat a large sauté pan over medium heat with a drizzle of oil. Add the chopped onions and cook for 3–5 minutes, or until they’re soft and translucent. Transfer the onions to a bowl and set aside.

In the same pan, brown the seasoned meat, breaking it up into small crumbles as it cooks. Once the meat is fully cooked, stir the onions back into the pan along with the chopped chipotle peppers, the remaining adobo sauce, and the tomato sauce.

Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened and most of the liquid has reduced.

Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. If you’d like to tame the heat, stir in a spoonful of sour cream or a splash of heavy cream until it reaches your preferred level of spice.
